On the early evening of Tuesday, December 12 we were very fortunate to have Jan Bednar, founder and CEO of Shipmonk, share his story on the beginnings of what became a $10M company in just 3 years. It was a great fireside chat event and the audience was able to ask Jan many questions. I particularly asked him what would be his answer if asked about the one or two pieces of advice he would give entrepreneurs that seek to scale their businesses like he did. His answer: first, bootstrap as much as you can. Be frugal on how you spend the finite resources you have. Second, surround yourself with a great group of mentors. Jan particularly attributes a good deal of his success to the mentors that joined his advisory board while at the Tech Runway accelerator. We are very proud to point out that many of these mentors, advisors and angel investors share their efforts with us at the Innovation Hub and at our Startup NOW accelerator, and gladly provide their time facilitating part of our curriculum and helping the entrepreneurs that we are launching. I want to thank Jan for his time, his openness telling us great stories about his journey and the candid answers he provided to our audience’s questions.
