Danielle Cohen Lima, CRA Administrator at the City of Coral Springs, was the champion behind Innovate Downtown, the city’s first ever event showcasing entrepreneurs and innovators. Taking place this past Friday and Saturday, the event was a great success and a source of pride for us at the Innovation Hub at Broward College. Of the 12 participants from dozens selected to the showcase, 4 were Startup NOW Accelerator companies. Two $2,500 prizes were awarded: one to the judges’ pick and one to the audience’s. Our very own Mario de la Guardia – Startup NOW cohort 1 graduate from a year ago – took home the judges’ prize. Mario has a patented¬†new multi-use pressure sprayer that requires 10X less effort than conventional sprayers and solves the hand-fatigue problem presented by traditional sprayers. Congratulations Danielle for putting together a great event for the community, to Mario for rising to the top, to Jerilyn Ward, Doug Saenz, Nancy Leve, Terry Bentley and Michael O’Donnell our support staff, and to cohort one judges Franc Nemanic, Jim Ryan, Mark Volcheck, Jason Brown, Kevin Edwards and Carlos Pernia, all the people who have been instrumental in making ours the premier accelerator program in Broward County.
